Q - Boy or a girl?
A - Korea does not allow you to choose gender if you don't have any children and apparently
cats don't count. Boys are being referred 3 to 1 so we knew we would likely get a boy and that
suits us fine, we were anticipating two baby boys anyway and would be ill prepared for a girl.
Turns out were getting a very big boy with funny hair, what could be better?
Q - What is his name?
A - His Korean name is Joon Young Suh.
His American name will be Samuel (TBD) Angel. We want to incorporate one of his Korean
names as his middle, but Lauren and I are still negotiating. My vote is for Suh. Lauren is
leaning towards Young. We can't legally change his name for 6 months once we return, so we
still have some time to see what suits him.
Q - How old is Sam?
A - Sam was born on June 4, 2006
Q - When do you bring Sam home?
A - We leave for Korea on October 17, 2006 and return to NOVA October 26, 2006.
Q - What happened to your original plans to adopt from Kazakhstan?
A - The reason we originally chose Kazakhstan is they would allow us to adopt 2 children at the
same time. In the 11th hour, Kaz changed the rules and stopped allowing concurrent adoptions.
Given the 6-8 week stay requirement in Kazakhstan, and a little bit of heartburn on our part,
we decided to switch countries and pursue adoption from Korea.
Q - Why Korea?
A - We were originally pursuing Korea and only changed to Kazakhstan because Kaz allowed the
adoption of two babies at the same time. We like the Korean program because it has been in
place for 50+ years, is very stable and provides some degree of predictability, an almost
impossible feat in the world of adoption. The Korean system also places the children in a
foster family, vs. an orphanage, where they are well cared for and LOVED. As a bonus, the
children are relatively young when they are referred and travel home. (6 months - 1 year).
Q - Why the website?
A - Not that we wanted to post our business on the web, but we originally started this site
anticipating a 6-8 week stay in Kazakhstan. Given the length of stay, time difference and
number of friends and family that we wanted to keep in the loop while in country, we thought a
website would be the best way to communicate. Plans changed and we ended up adopting from
Korea, but the website lived on...
Q - Why is the site called 20 Angel Toes?
A - Two simple answers. Our last name is Angel and we originally built the site based on the
assumption that we were going to adopt two children (20 toes). Rather than change the url of
the site, we decided to honor our long lost Kaz kids Genghis and Kahn (Kevin's affectionate
nick names) the two kids that should be here today.
Q - How do we 'talk' to you while you're away?
A - email of course, we'd love to hear from you!
